Becomes skilled in the operation of equipment used at the Port's facilities, such as dump trucks, bush hog tractor, forklifts, dozers, belts, stackers, conveyors, and front-end loaders used in the maintenance of the Port's office buildings, properties, facilities, docks, railroads, transit sheds, and grounds. Assists in pulling and installing crossties and repairing railroad tracks when needed. Assists in re-railing railcars that have derailed. Required to work around waterfront including cargo-handling areas where ships are being loaded and railcars and trucks are being unloaded. Makes minor repairs to equipment and performs user maintenance necessary to keep equipment in clean, good working order. Assists in tasks such as grass cutting, shoveling, minor carpentry, welding, or plumbing repairs and general upkeep of the grounds and facility.
