Porgera | Engineer - Underground Ventilation

Reporting to the Underground Senior Mine Engineer, the incumbent will be part of the Underground Engineering team and be primarily responsible for carrying out underground ventilation, Designs, Reporting of ventilation issues and project activities are prioritized, designed, documented, getting appropriate approvals and ensure operational activities are aligned within the mine production plan. Compile statutory UG Mine Ventilation Reports to for the Management to present Mines Department where required.

The ideal candidate must have:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mine Engineering with Industrial Experience 2+ years’ experience in underground mining operations, or at least 6 months UG Practical Experience  Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas Experience in underground mine ventilation in metalliferous mines Proven safety management performance in underground mining operations Initiative and strong problem solving skills Ability to work well in a team and meet short term deadlines Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications and other Microsoft Applications Computer literate with mine ventilation/planning software, preferably Mine Sight & Ventsim Strong report writing and presentation skills

Key Responsibilities:

Monitor the UG mine ventilation activities in the underground mine on a daily basis and to ensure activities are undertaken in accordance with the mine ventilation plan and NPL Mine Departments Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Use the appropriate feedback mechanism when variances occur. Requires consultation with operations supervisors, foreman, geologist, geotechnical engineer, production engineers and UG planning engineers. This requires having a strong working relationship between operations, geology, geotechnical and engineering personnel is established and maintained Through the use of procedures to get the job done, ensure that improvements to the procedures are captured and changes are made to controlled documents by custodian. Ensure effective communication with delegate prior to departure from site. Provide Daily and Weekly Ventilation plans and designs  Identifying and implementing improvement opportunities within the  mine ventilation system Ensure the mine ventilation activities are done as per PNG Mining Safety Act &  PJV standard procedures, including development of ventilation system/designs Prepare and update end of month ventilation status & level plans. Conduct and prepare Quarterly and Yearly UG Mine Ventilation Surveys and Reports for the management to present to the Mines Department Various other mine ventilation and or related projects as required Perform Monthly Emission Tests on ALL underground diesel  machinery to ensure the equipment meet the statutory levels or requirements as per the PNG/ Queensland Mining Safety Act limits Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures.

Mobilization Requirements:

This position is open to PNG Citizens Only  Rotation is FIFO, 21 days on site and 14 days off Must have an up-to-date Police clearance certificate (acquired within the last 6 months) Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol test Females are encouraged to apply
