The Family Engagement Specialist: Father (FES) (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tpYYcT9kVfAhZTrzhTj0Rg6s7N1GBUak/view?usp=sharing) is a father who once had an open child protection case, experienced their child(ren) being removed from their care and completed the plan to reunify with their child(ren).
The FES uses first-hand knowledge and understanding of the child welfare system to provide input and parent perspective on system improvements including training and policy development.
We are looking for a team member who is good at working with lots of different people and who is willing to:
+ Work with trainers, policy makers, and DHHS caseworkers
+ Work with parents who are part-time advisors
+ Share what helped them while they had open cases
+ Help with training caseworkers, foster and adoptive parents, relatives, and others
+ Help child welfare systems and community partners understand what helps parents keep trying even when things are hard
+ Participate in groups that are trying to improve child welfare
This is a full-time grant funded position on our Portland Campus with an annual salary of up to $42,500.

Required Qualifications:
+ Associate’s degree and one to three years of relevant professional experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Lived experience as a father involved with the child welfare system who has experienced removal of their child from the home and achieved reunification. Minimum two years distance in time from the dismissal of their child welfare case.
+ Experience in group facilitation and strategic sharing.
+ Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
+ Ability to provide own transportation (fully insured vehicle), provide proof of a valid driver’s license, and compliance with Maine law regarding vehicle insurance OR proven ability to reach locations around the state on short notice.
Preferred:
+ Have strategies and skills or have ready access to support when facing difficult situations or engaging in sensitive conversations.
