Starting salary depends upon qualifications:
PS108 / Special Entrance Rate $18.58/hr.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No experience or training is required.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

FUNCTION OF WORK:
To protect lives and property by conducting foot and mobile security patrols, enforcing parking and traffic regulations, rendering emergency services, investigating minor crimes, and making arrests when necessary. Provides a limited range of police services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
65% POLICE PATROLS/CRIME PREVENTION
Conducts anti-terrorism patrols of Port facilities, perimeter fence lines, roadways, waterways, and other areas of critical infrastructure.
Provides a full range of police services with a primary emphasis on enforcement of laws, investigation of crimes, accidents and hazardous material incidents including chemical spills. Responds to calls for service, routine and emergency. Writes police reports on certain incidents when required.
Affects arrests, issue summons, writes traffic citation, and conducts accident investigations, traffic enforcement and traffic control activities. Conducts incident investigations or other major disturbance investigations and prepares written reports to document same.
Documents arriving and departing marine vessels, including ships, barges and tugboats.
20% BOAT CERTIFIED/FIREFIGHTING & RESCUE DUTIES
Attends in-house training programs to become boat certified along with ongoing training once certified. While on Port vessels the officer will assist with mooring lines, body recovery, first aid, and security sweeps of critical infrastructure. Will also board the Fireboat to conduct law enforcement duties along with assisting Fireboat crew as needed including firefighting duties; will complete firefighting training course to be familiar with firefighting techniques, lifesaving equipment, types of fire extinguishers, and operating rescue boats.
10% ALTERNATE DUTIES
In the absence of dispatcher, performs duties of a police dispatcher, including but not limited to dispatching police units to calls for service, operating computer-aided dispatch system, operate and verify warrants through NCIC or MOTIONS computer systems, and operate port-wide camera system for electronic surveillance and monitoring of roadways.
5% OTHER DUTIES AS DIRECTED
Work requires wearing specialized personal protective equipment, including but not limited to respirator and ballistic vest.
