Platform Engineer
Our client, in the retail industry, is seeking a Platform Engineer to join their team. As a Platform Engineer, you will be part of the development team. **Job Title: Platform Engineer** **Location: Georgetown, TX (north of Austin) - 2-3 days per week in office, 2-2 days remote** As part of the development team, the Platform Engineer will design, implement, and maintain the backend infrastructure that powers our consumer-facing applications. This role is essential for keeping our platform robust, scalable, and secure, ensuring smooth experiences for millions of users. The Platform Engineer will drive Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices, automate workflows for efficiency, and collaborate with development and operations teams to integrate new technologies and enhance performance. Additionally, the engineer will contribute to the backend development of web services, ensuring seamless integration with our infrastructure. The mission is to build a reliable, high-performance system that supports continuous delivery and innovation, fueling product success and customer satisfaction. **Scope:** The Platform Engineer, reporting to the Director of Engineering, oversees the entire lifecycle of infrastructure development for the OLCI (the consumer-facing online check-in system that supports the iOS/Android apps and the web app). This role includes architecting scalable cloud environments, automating infrastructure provisioning with Terraform and Kubernetes, and ensuring robust CI/CD pipelines for seamless application delivery. Responsibilities extend to monitoring system performance, implementing security best practices, and resolving issues promptly. Beyond infrastructure, the Platform Engineer contributes to backend application logic, using Node.js with TypeScript, and plays a key role in configuring and optimizing web services. They will participate in code reviews, collaborate with external vendors to meet company standards, manage internal infrastructure, and enhance processes throughout the software development lifecycle. Additionally, they are part of the emergency response team for production incidents, ensuring high availability and reliability of all systems. **Key Criteria/Requirements:** + Degree in related field or equivalent work experience. + 3+ years of experience working with both Terraform and Kubernetes. + 5+ years of experience in backend development using technologies like Node.js and TypeScript. + Deep knowledge of cloud services (AWS and/or Azure) and experience with CI/CD pipelines. + Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, TCP/IP networking, and command-line interfaces. + Experience with build systems, including a solid grasp of how NPM works and the typical build processes for JavaScript applications. + Experience working with databases, including designing schemas, optimizing SQL queries, managing database performance, and ensuring data integrity and scalability. + Proficiency in writing unit tests and automated tests to ensure code quality and reliability. + Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues. + Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a team environment. + Ability to explain complex technical issues in a way non-technical stakeholders can understand. + Customer service orientation with an obsession for delivering a product that meet client needs. + Strong project and program management skills, including planning and organization. + Effective time management skills to handle competing priorities.
