Job Purpose
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Plant Manager to lead our plant operations in Nairobi. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the long-term and short-term planning, organising, and overseeing all areas of plant operations, ensuring that the plant runs smoothly, efficiently, and safely. This role is crucial in driving the development and implementation of future-fit strategies, optimising productivity, and maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Departmental Strategy Formulation and Implementation: Develop and monitor the Plant Operations strategy to align with Heineken and KWAL goals. Lead changes in technical processes, products, and technology.
Budget Management: Develop and manage the Plant Operations budget to ensure optimal operations.
Technical Projects Management: Execute technical projects to improve plant capacity and efficiency.
Quality and Process Conformance: Ensure adherence to quality management standards and work procedures.
Food Safety Systems Management: Ensure compliance with food safety standards and support new product development.
Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement: Drive optimisation and improvement of systems and processes, including TPM2Win and ERP utilisation.
Controls and Compliance: Build strong internal control systems and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Health, Safety, and Sustainability: Promote a safe working environment and manage emissions and waste, including driving a positive health and safety culture in the workplace and playing a lead role in the Occupational Health and Safety Committee on site.
Inventory Management: Oversee the management of critical engineering spares, consumables, and inventory.
Reporting: Prepare and submit accurate management reports for decision-making.
People Management: Attract, develop, and retain talented individuals, fostering a positive work environment and driving continuous improvement. Including representing the Business Leadership in negotiations of Collective Bargaining Agreements
Minimum Requirements:
Academic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing/Production Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Food Science and Technology.
Professional Qualifications: Membership to a professional body e.g. Engineering Board of Kenya (EBK)
Experience: At least 8 years’ experience, with 4 years’ management role in a manufacturing company. Experience in a unionized environment would be advantageous
Technical Competencies: Proficiency in managing complex technical projects, ERP systems, occupational health and safety, asset care, and food manufacturing standards.
Behavioral Competencies: Strong leadership skills, business acumen, customer focus, analytical skills, effective communication, leading change and conflict management.
