Plant Engineer III

Position Objective:

Performs preventive and corrective maintenance functions on hospital air conditioning, heating, air supply, and refrigeration systems.

Performs corrective and preventive maintenance on all boiler and HVAC plant equipment, including maintaining order and cleanliness within the boiler room. (On second and third shift, perform corrective maintenance and emergency repairs throughout the Medical Center).Makes rounds of the boiler room and designated auxiliary machinery spaces to monitor equipment and operations. Performs required safety test on boilers on every shift, recording readings every two hours on critical plant equipment in service.Checks water levels on all heating and cooling systems in use. Collects water samples from each system and conducts tests to determine proper chemical content.Maintains all reports and logs according to departmental policies and procedures.Reports promptly all malfunctions of equipment, or other irregularities to appropriate personnel. Participates in the computerized maintenance management system for work and equipment documentation.Monitors and manages building climate using the energy management computer system.Clean and unclog drains and toilets, repair water faucets, flushometers, perform the installation of plumbing fixture and piping, perform repairs in steam, oxygen, vacuum and other medical gases. Request assistance from plumbers, painters, HVAC technicians, carpenters, and plant operators when necessary. Performs electrical maintenance on receptacles, light switches, electrical circuits and fixtures.Performs heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) maintenance on air conditioning units, fans, air handlers, water heaters, converters, duct work and system controls.Disposes of hazardous waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal laws and regulations.Educational/Experience Requirements:

The minimum level of education and experience for this position includes:

High School Diploma/GED or equivalentOne or more years of specialized training in appropriate technical fields consisting of carpentry, painting, light construction.Must be familiar with basic mechanical toolsThree to five years’ experience in Plant Operations

Required License/Certifications:

Valid Maryland driver's license and a driving record with no more than two (2) points.First Grade Stationary Plant Engineer License from the State of Maryland.Universal CFC Certification (EPA) preferred.

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

There is reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Physical Demands – Heavy

Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
