POSITION SUMMARY

Marathon’s Robinson Illinois Refinery has an opening for a Pipefitting and Welding Supervisor to oversee General Maintenance. This position will supervise hourly MPC General Maintenance (GM) craftsmen/welders and pipefitter/boilermaker contractors to complete scheduled and unplanned routine maintenance on 1 of 3 GM Areas. This position will play a key role in maintaining the mechanical integrity and operability of refinery fixed equipment and piping assets. This position assists in developing equipment repair timelines, provides support to field GM craftsmen; conducts investigations into equipment failures and safety incidents; coordinates shop fabrication of piping; leads, mentors, trains and coaches hourly GM craftsmen; manages compliance of the Company's Mechanical Integrity (MI) / Preventive Maintenance (PM) requirements; updates maintenance procedures, coordinates the execution of turnaround mechanical scope; and champions safety in the Maintenance Organization. 

The normal work schedule for the position is Monday - Thursday with core hours 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM (CST).  This position is expected to respond to call-outs and plant emergencies during off-hours that correspond to assigned area (2-3 per quarter), support planned unit outages for assigned area, and work Turnaround once a year.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES   

Leads daily safety start of shift toolbox meetings with hourly craftsmen. 

Assigns work to craftsmen and ensures the weekly maintenance schedule is executed safely and to MPC standards.  

Participates in field safety audits and near-miss/incident investigations. Follows up on safety issues until closure. Completes Intelex tasks and action items including incident investigations, recommendations, and MOC tasks on time.  

Demonstrates a working knowledge of safe work practices and follow procedures including Safety Procedures (SPs), Lock-out/Tag-outs (LOTOs), Blinding, Energy Isolation ...etc.  

Works with Operations Supervision to prioritize maintenance efforts to support the operational and production goals of the plant.  

Identifies and resolves barriers to completing planned jobs per the established schedule.  

Oversees the completion of all shop specific regulatory, safety, and equipment preventative maintenance tasks.  

Ensures assigned General Maintenance and contractor personnel are adequately trained for their job assignment.   

Develops and oversees the yearly training plan for shop employees to ensure safety and regulatory, as well as professional and skills development training is complete.  

Assists the maintenance planner with development of job plans through technical analysis, field walks, and identification of resource requirements. Helps ensure materials comply with engineering standards. Identifies and resolves delays that would prevent schedule attainment before the job is scheduled.  

Works collaboratively with other supervisors, Planning & Scheduling, and Reliability Teams to develop repair strategies and maintain reliability of refinery mechanical equipment in support of continuous operations.  

Participates in daily meetings to review the schedule, evaluate priority/break-in work, and identifies potential issues with the weekly plan.  

Maintains cleanliness and organization within the shop and maintenance areas.  

Follows up on safety items generated through audits and implements suggestions as warranted.  

Ensures the environmental accumulation areas are maintained to meet the regulations and environmental policies of the refinery.  

Stewards the shop’s equipment and tools to ensure they are maintained and serviceable.  

Provides on-call support as required.  

Coordinates shop fabrication and repair. 

Assists with work order backlog review and mitigation. 

Manages craft progression and training requirements.  

Participates in Shop Audits and performs FAST audits. 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

Minimum (Required) Qualifications  

High School Diploma or equivalent  

3 years of experience in the refining or petrochemical industry 

Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator) and be able to physically perform all tasks.  

Must have a valid driver's license.  

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.   

 

Preferred Qualifications  

Engineering, Construction, or Trade School Certificate/Degree.  

3 years of Supervisory and/or Project Coordinator/Lead experience.  

SAP work order and requisition processing experience.  

5 years of experience repairing and maintaining refinery or industrial plant fixed equipment and/or piping systems 

Knowledge of refinery piping specifications and piping fabrication, welding and repair. 

Maintenance experience in refinery and/or petrochemical facility is preferred. 

 

Skills 

Strong written and verbal communication skills and capability of communicating within all levels of the organization. 

Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
