**Job Description**
Under the supervision of the Director of Service, supervises Physician Associates and Senior Physician Associates in their delivery of clinical care. Under supervision of a licensed physician, performs duties of a Physician Associate including evaluation and treatment of patients having medical and/or surgical problems, or requiring obstetrical care. Teaches staff and students and performs quality assurance functions for the department. Performs supervisory functions including staff recruitment, scheduling, professional development, performance evaluations and participation in the disciplinary process. In the role of robotic surgery supervisor/coordinator helps train new PAs in first assisting, fosters growth and learning of other PAs. Also serves as liaison between nursing staff, surgeons and administration on robotic surgery matters. Full-time workweek is forty hours; may be required to work in excess of schedules during staffing shortages or to complete cases, clinical rotations.
**Qualifications**
**1.** Job requires completion of NYS-approved program for training of physician or specialist associates to acquire knowledge of anatomy, physiology and clinical patient care, usually via accredited Bachelor of Science program or degree in closely related field. Certain education/training may be accepted by NYS in lieu of these requirements (nurse, etc.). Special certification may be necessary for teaching duties/responsibilities.
**2.** Job requires three years of progressively more responsible related experience as lead/supervisory physician associate preferably in a large- scale healthcare organization, demonstrating knowledge and ability that is of the highest professional quality.
**3.** Registration required with New York State as Physician Associate or Specialist Associate. Certification with National Commission on Certification of Physician Associates (or equivalent organization) mandatory. Certification may be required with American Heart Association, etc. in some areas as provider of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)/Basic Life Support (BLS).
**4.** DaVinci Intuitive Training (Xi; Si).
**5.** Proficiency with EMR documentation.
**6.** Very high level of analytical ability required to effectively diagnose and treat medical/surgical problems under the direction of physician; schedule/guide staff; provide teaching; and coordinate diverse clinical resources.
**7.** Interacts with various internal hospital medical, administrative and professional staff in the course of supervisory duties. High degree of responsibility required for daily contacts with patients and their families.
**8.** Manual dexterity required for adept manipulation of surgical instruments and handling of medical equipment; physical strength necessary for lifting and proper handling/positioning of patients.
**Responsibilities**
**1.** Supervises Physician Associate staff in area of responsibility: interviews physician associate candidates; trains new employees; assigns and schedules staff. Recommends hiring/termination, discipline, promotion and appraises performance of subordinate physician associates. Conducts sessions to monitor ongoing case follow-up.
**2.** Performs complete patient histories and physical examinations, performs routine and/or emergency procedures including but not limited to irrigation and suturing of wounds or incisions, drainage of abscesses, insertion of nasogastric tubes and intravenous lines, sampling of arterial blood, etc. Writes appropriately authorized prescriptions; may prescribe controlled substances under appropriate physician countersignature.
**3.** Initiates or participates in initial management and stabilization of patients in cardiopulmonary arrest or other medical or surgical emergencies.
**4.** Confers with Attending Physicians, Residents, Nursing Staff, etc., to ensure delivery of optimum quality of patient care. Confers regularly with staff in order to keep them apprised of clinical developments, patient concerns, etc. Participates in special projects as assigned. Prepares quality assurance/continuous quality improvement data for review.
**5.** Performs other duties pursuant to clinical and supervisory responsibility: responsible for coordination of ongoing follow-up of patient care; provides assistance and back up for medical personnel. Makes appropriate entries in patient charts.
**6.** Remains informed of current trends in field by reviewing literature, data. Teaches students, staff, residents, nurses and other personnel as required. Responsible for monitoring completion of CME by department physician.
**7.** In robotic surgery, will act as first assistant in operating area. Performs pre-operative and post-operative evaluation/medical care as required. Will coordinate other PAs in the same capacity and be able to cover for all the robotic procedures either as coordinator/supervisor or directly.

**Compensation Statement**
Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $115494 - $173241 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
