Physician Assistant, Neonatal Surgery
Under general supervision, and with medical consultation and direction, performs physical, psycho-social assessment; establishes medical diagnosis; orders and evaluates diagnostic tests; manages follow up care; supports the neonatal operating room during surgical intervention; and does other related work as required. Responsibilities include performing physical examinations, developing treatment plans, ordering and interpreting lab tests and results, along with providing preventative healthcare and counseling. Acts as the neonatal surgeon’s assistant during surgery by applying traction or counter-traction as needed, helping to maintain hemostasis during surgery and assisting with wound closure at completion of surgical procedure. Demonstrates competencies for neonatal surgical procedures, techniques, and equipment and functions interdependently with the neonatal surgeon and applies knowledge, skill, and judgment necessary to assist the neonatal surgeon in performing a safe operation that yields optimal results for the patient. Performs various tasks and duties to provide technical assistance and support to neonatal intensive care unit and surgical staff and personnel during surgical procedures.
