PHYSICAL SCIENTIST
Summary This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies through the Certain Competitive Service / Modified Direct Hire Authority. Responsibilities You will apply the concepts of textile technology; textile science; biomedical, mechanical, and fire science engineering; or related fields in studies. You will develop approaches, methods, and techniques, and coordinate efforts and findings with other military services, other government agencies, industry and academia. You will research data, develop briefings, prepare fact sheets, etc. You will organize, manage, and present data to include recommendations, both formally and informally, via oral and written means. You will prepare and coordinate the processing of preventative maintenance contracts to ensure continued operations of laboratory equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the basic requirement for this position (below), your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector applying the concepts of textile technology (i.e. textile science, biomedical, mechanical, and fire science engineering) or related fields in studies aimed at the development of new, improved, or specialized protective textiles, protective ensembles, life support equipment, micro-climate conditioning systems, or test and evaluation methods. Examples of specialized experience include: 1) Serving as a project lead in the formulation, planning, and organization of high visibility projects while working collaboratively with both internal and external partners; 2) Analyzing information and data and assessing testing status as it relates to programs, projects, and tasks; 3) Managing functions performed by the various testing and evaluation laboratories (Biophysical, Flame/Thermal, and Textile Performance); 4) Operating standard and developmental test equipment and instruments to obtain data in support of developmental projects and programs; 5) Recommends initiation of studies, tasks, and research opportunities; 6) Develops proposals and other programmatic documentation and assists leadership with seeking additional testing and evaluation opportunities. Basic Requirements: Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. or Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Education There is no substitute of education for experience for this series at this grade level. Additional Information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled. This position is eligible for ad-hoc/situational telework at the discretion of management.
