Job Description
Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate.Update patient information.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear and courteous manner.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Understand all physicians' orders fully.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport.Store specimen samples according to required temperatures and place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately labeling and following procedures necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.Experience with Pediatrics to Geriatrics required.2-4 years of experience as a Phlebotomist in an outpatient, patient service center, or hospital setting required.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with blood draw, venipuncture, sample collection, phlebotomy, specimen collection, and specimen processing.Professionalism and customer service orientation.Work Environment
The work environment is a doctor's office. Up to 20 draws are required daily. The Phlebotomist is expected to stand for 50% of the time. The specialties include geriatric and pediatric care, with at least two years of phlebotomy experience required. The role involves working both with a team and alone at times. The schedule is
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00/hr.
