Phlebotomist I
Job Title: Phlebotomist IJob Description The main function of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and ensuring accurate and efficient processing of samples. Responsibilities + Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data. + Decontaminate equipment and update patient information. + Explain the venipuncture blood drawing process and other specimen collection procedures (e.g., urine or fecal) clearly and courteously. + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. + Fully understand all of the physicians' orders. + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. + Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. + Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to required temperature. Essential Skills + Proficiency in venipuncture and specimen processing. + Knowledge of order of draw. + Experience in outpatient settings. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Phlebotomy certification is ideal but not mandatory. Work Environment The work environment involves working in a clinical setting where adherence to safety and procedural protocols is essential. You will use various technologies and equipment such as centrifuges and needles. The role requires attention to detail and precision in handling specimens and patient information. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.40 - $20.40/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
