Phlebotomist I
Job Title: Certified Phlebotomist

Job Description

The main function of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and conduct decontamination.Update patient information as required.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collection such as urine or fecal samples in a clear and courteous manner.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand and follow all physicians' orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match the script to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport.Store specimen samples according to required temperatures and place samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes.Follow procedures specific to protocols to maintain the integrity of the specimen during transport.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department training sessions.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed required.Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.1-2 years of experience preferred. Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in specimen processing is highly advantageous.Work Environment

The work environment is fast-paced, involving frequent blood draws and specimen processing. Compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations is mandatory. The role requires attention to detail and adherence to specific procedures for specimen collection, storage, and transport. Annual department training is required.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
