Job Title: Phlebotomist (Full Time, Day Shift)

Job Location: 6350 Glenway Avenue, 3rd Floor, Cincinnati, OH 45211

Work Hours: Monday - Friday form 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (No weekends or holidays)

Job Overview:

The Phlebotomist performs phlebotomy functions and non-technical duties in the hospital laboratory, outpatient facilities, and off-site services.

Job Requirements:

Graduate of an approved technical, professional, or vocational program Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers Up to 1 year of current venipuncture experience

Job Responsibilities:

Accurately identify patients using two identifiers; ask patients to state their name and date of birth. Select the correct patient chart in EMR. Correctly label all samples with the patient's full name and date of birth after confirming with the patient. Achieve zero mislabelings. Collect quality samples using proper venipuncture techniques to eliminate hemolysis, insufficient specimen volume, and other issues that can lead to recollections or inaccurate results (e.g., elevated potassium). Respond to patients’ complications (e.g., fainting, bleeding at venipuncture site, etc.). Refer to the Lab website or consult with Lab Support Services staff to determine the correct collection requirement. Accurately process samples (e.g., centrifuge properly, place on ice, protect from light, etc.). Prepare samples for courier pickup and transport; call the Lab for stat pickups as requested by the office or required for specimen stability. Ensure specimens are in the lockbox if the courier will arrive after hours. Interact professionally with patients and coworkers. Understand your role as a representative of the office. Organize work to minimize patient wait times. Keep the draw area neat, organized, and stocked with adequate supplies. Discard expired collection supplies.
