Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Phlebotomist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination. Additionally, updating patient information and ensuring compliance with established procedures are key aspects of this role. The candidate should be proficient in explaining the venipuncture process and demonstrate proper techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws and label specimens accurately.Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.Decontaminate and update patient information.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously.Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% correctness.Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.Follow procedures outlined to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department training sessions.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (if required).Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.2-4 years of experience in a related field.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with geriatric and pediatric patients.Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Work Environment

This position involves floating around the Johnson County and KCK area, with mileage reimbursement provided. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. The work is primarily conducted in doctor's offices, which are fairly large. The phlebotomist will spend most of their shift standing and will perform 20-40 draws daily. The role involves working with a team and requires a week of orientation training initially.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
