Pharmacy Technician Supervisor

The Supervisor, Pharmacy Technician is responsible for supervising the Pharmacy Technician workforce and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy. Works to ensure effective work practices for the department. Monitors and implements improvements in staff performance and operational workflows, as appropriate. Manages workflow to ensure it is carried out in accordance with applicable regulatory, outside agencies and internal standards.

GENERAL DUTIES

Assists in the monitoring and developing of operational efficiency and performance of the pharmacy as directed. Oversees department and area specific goals on a continual basis.In coordination with other members of the management team, assists in developing and enforcing policies and procedures ensuring they are updated, understood, and followed by the entire staff.Responsible for interviewing new job candidates, orientation, annual peer evaluation, scheduling, timekeeping, counseling, and disciplinary actions for technicians. Assists in counseling technicians and oversees the staff's day-to-day duties and operations.Provides delivery of medication to the patient care areas according to scheduled delivery times.Identifies and documents low inventory items on the purchasing order list.Receives drug order and stocks shelves in unit dose area and IV room. Repackages bulk medications in the unit-dose packages per established procedures using the appropriate techniques.Performs routine nursing unit and departmental inspections.Participates in quality data collection.Monitors refrigerator temperatures daily for medication refrigerators that are not electronically monitored and documents interventions.Inspects expiration dates of medications in the pharmacy and the automated system by using the outdate function and removes outdated medication from the stock.Restocks/ensures restocking of code cart trays and documentation of expiration dates of items used. Retrieves the appropriate drug to be restocked and selects the correct medication when assigning, pulling, loading, and restocking medications in the system.May assume staffing responsibilities in the role of a pharmacy technician to assure smooth operations of the pharmacy.


EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

Required: 3 years of experience in an in-patient hospital Pharmacy.Preferred: 2 years of prior supervisory/leadership experience. (Touro)


EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

Required: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent (Touro/UMC)Preferred: Associate's Degree (Touro)
