Description:POSITION PURPOSE

The position of the pharmacy intern is to develop the knowledge base and competency level in an inpatient setting while performing pharmacy functions under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Functions performed as a pharmacy intern include, but are not limited to:

·         Behave in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Value of the organization

·         Follow HIPAA regulation by maintaining confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, providers, associates, and visitors to the hospital.  Discuss patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in private places.

·         Perform duties in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulation

·         Perform non-sterile compounding

·         Accurate medication checking

·         Perform medication distribution

·         Prepare carts for Pyxis medstation refills

·         Remove expired or soon to be expired medication from circulation

·         Fill first doses

·         Navigate and use EMR

·         Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships with all pharmacy and hospital staff.  Approach conflicts in a constructive manner. 

·         Among the intern group, ensure daily intern coverage.  If there is an open intern shift, assignment will be given to the intern with the least seniority on a rolling basis.

·         If needed, prepare applicable vaccinations, confirm appropriateness through patient profile review and MCIR, and utilize appropriate vaccination preparation skills

·         Administer vaccinations when applicable

·         Adhere to the department policies

·         Complete Health Stream assignment in a timely manner

·         Perform other duties as assigned

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Education:

Currently enrolled in a Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum at an accredited college or school of Pharmacy

Licensure:

Current State of Michigan License as a Pharmacy Intern
