Job Summary

The post graduate year 1 (PGY-1) pharmacy residency is a one year period of transition from student to independent practitioner. The post graduate year 2 (PGY-2) pharmacy residency is a one year period of transition from general residency trained pharmacist to clinical pharmacist with a specific area of expertise. The residency experience is designed to accelerate 3-5 years of experience into one residency year.

Essential Functions

Interprets and screens medication orders for appropriate agent, dose, route, allergies, and potential drug interactions. Safely compounds and dispenses medications for administration to patients.Evaluates patients, orders appropriate laboratory tests, and interprets serum drug levels utilizing pharmacokinetic principles; provides prescribers with dosage regimen recommendations to optimize therapeutic outcomes, reduce patient risk, and reduce the costs associated with drug therapy.Attends all required residency meetings and functions as outlined in the Pharmacy Residency Manual.Completes project requirements as outlined in the Pharmacy Residency Manual.Complies with the staffing commitment as outlined in the Pharmacy Residency Manual.Engages in continuous study of the entire professional field to maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities. Completes required continuous training and education, including department and Spectrum Health specific requirements on a timely basis.Ensures that services are provided in accordance with state and Federal regulations, organizational policy, and accreditation/compliance requirements.Ensures that required documentation for activities within areas of responsibility is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
