These are part-time employment opportunities for individuals to tutor students needing additional academic assistance in various subject areas.

 

This is a great opportunity for individuals to obtain leadership skills, develop strong communication skills, applicable job skills, build a resume, and earn extra money. Additional benefits for student tutors include a flexible on-campus employment and reinforcing of knowledge or skills.

 

Note: There is no guarantee for continued employment from semester to semester due to the unique demands of the student population. Semester work schedules are determined at the beginning of the semester, but may change once student needs are established.

There are several tutor positions available:

Open Lab Tutor: Provide tutoring services for students on a walk-in basis in an open lab setting. Tutors may provide 1:1 appointments out of open lab times by appointment only.

Provide 30 or 60 minute 1:1 tutoring appointments.Assist students as needed.Be knowledgeable of Academic Support processes.Maintain and record peer tutor attendance logs.Track tutee attendance.

1:1 Tutor: Provide 1:1 tutoring by appointment only. These tutoring sessions will only be in a specified content area.

Respond to all 1:1 appointment requests.Provide 30 or 60 minute 1:1 tutoring appointments.Maintain and record peer tutor attendance logs.

Desk Staff Tutor:

Greet and assist all visitors.Answer incoming calls.Managing email communications.Maintain and record peer tutor attendance logs.Record student time in lab.Assist in student outreach and the promotion of department services.Participate in meetings as required.Work alongside Academic Support lab instructor(s).Use good judgement when dealing with confidential and sensitive information.Operate office equipment as telephone system, printer, scanner, and other equipment as needed.

All Tutor Responsibilities:

Attend mandatory paid training at the beginning of every semester.Participate in ongoing training offered throughout the semester.Be dedicated to checking staff email account.Be dedicated to participating and utilizing the Tutoring resources.Be dependable, flexible, relatable, proactive, patient, friendly, approachable, encouraging, supportive, and have a positive attitude.Communicate regularly with Learning Center Coordinator and Instructor (if applicable).Demonstrate commitment to service excellence standards.Relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social or educational backgrounds.Excel within the academic area they are tutoring in.Must be knowledgeable with Canvas and Microsoft Office.Ability to be patient, friendly, and supportive when working with students.Be assigned other duties as needed. Qualifications CVTC student or high school diploma or equivalency.
