Job Summary

NOTE: This position is located in Pine Ridge, SD and only available for applicants living in the Pine Ridge, SD area.  

Peaceful Means is a Native American co-led sexual violence prevention project on the Pine Ridge Reservation housed at the University of Michigan School of Social Work. Peaceful Means is seeking multiple individuals to serve as data collectors.

Individuals in these positions will assist with in-school data collection, recruitment and retention efforts, as well as interact and engage with local Pine Ridge Reservation school staff and community members, on behalf of the Peaceful Means research team at the University of Michigan. This includes conducting pre and post-test surveys to youth in grades 3-12, collecting guardian consents at schools and in the community, and calling youth and guardians whose children missed the in-school survey. Other duties include processing consent forms, data entry, and sharing data process improvement suggestions to the research team based in Pine Ridge, SD and/or Ann Arbor, MI.

The people in these positions will be supervised by Pine Ridge Research Staff and Faculty from Ann Arbor, MI.

Responsibilities*Visit school locations to assist with distributing pre and post data collection surveys, and any other project specific data collection or follow up required.Recruit and enroll participants for the project via phone, email, and home visits.Visit school and community events to share information about the project.Data entry.Attending meetings and sharing ideas, working as part of a team.Hours will vary and may include evenings/weekends/early mornings in addition to normal business hours. Required Qualifications*High school diploma or equivalent experience.Experience working with tribal communities.Drivers License.Good interpersonal skills and willingness/eagerness to learn about community- and school-based research.Must have attention to detail and the ability to execute tasks with high levels of accuracy and efficiency.Must have a flexible schedule and the ability to work variable hours including a minimum of 10 hours a week during busy project times.Ability and willingness to connect and communicate with students and their families as needed.Ability to engage in some ad hoc problem solving and decision making when potential unexpected issues arise.Desired Qualifications*

Prefer coursework or bachelor's degree in psychology, public health, social work, or a related field plus one (1) year of experience doing similar work. The ideal candidate will have experience with community- and school-based research and/or working in school settings in any capacity. Strong preference given to those that have experience with Microsoft Office products and knowledge of the school systems on the Pine Ridge Reservations.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

For this position: In person at the Peaceful Means Office in Pine Ridge, SD and onsite at schools around the reservation or in Rapid City, or other surrounding communities as needed.
