Patient Care Technician (Casual) – 6E Trauma

UPMC Altoona is looking for a casual Patient Care Technician to work on our 6E Trauma Unit!

 

*Candidates will be placed into the appropriate job title and salary based on experience (Nursing Assistant, Nursing Student or Patient Care Technician, Nursing Student).

 

Responsibilities:

Patient Care:

Assist with procedures and daily living activities. Provide feedback to RN and report patient status changes. Aid in physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. Instruct patients and families under RN direction. Apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints per protocol.

Core Responsibilities:

Perform blood glucose tests, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, and Foley care. Execute additional tasks: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, or IV catheter removal.

Communication & Relationships:

Report equipment malfunctions. Establish effective communication with other departments. Maintain professional and respectful interpersonal relationships. Contribute to unit activities: responding to call lights, telephones, passing meal trays, and transporting patients.

Feedback & Development:

Constructively receive feedback and direction. Communicate learning needs and improve knowledge, skills, and performance. Participate in self-review as requested by the unit director.

Safety & Compliance:

Adhere to all patient care and hospital-related policies and procedures. Comply with safety policies, including standard precautions. Document in medical records according to procedures. Complete clerical functions as needed.

Departmental Support:

Suggest and support changes within the department. Assume responsibility for assignments and view problems as challenges. Support department-based projects and quality initiatives.
