UPMC Horizon Shenango Valley’s Emergency Department is currently looking to hire a Limited Casual Patient Care Technician!
Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) are vital partners in the patient care provided at UPMC. They work on patient care units and perform a variety of important basic and advanced skills. They work closely and continuously with patients, partnering with nurses and other professionals, to make a big difference in how patients recover and experience their hospital stay.
Final candidates will be selected for a job title within the career ladder that reflects level of education, experience and manager discretion at time of offer
Responsibilities:
Patient Care: Assist with patient procedures and activities of daily living, including physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. Provide feedback to the RN and report changes in patient status. Core Nursing Assistant Duties: Perform essential tasks such as blood glucose monitoring, weights, vital signs, intake and output (I&O), specimen collections, and Foley care. Additionally, complete at least four of the following tasks: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point-of-care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, or IV catheter removal. Equipment Management: Report equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department. Communication: Establish effective communication with other departments and maintain professional and respectful interpersonal relationships. Unit Activities: Contribute to unit activities, including responding to call lights and telephones, passing meal trays, and transporting patients. Feedback and Learning: Constructively receive feedback and direction, identify and communicate learning needs, and take action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance. Participate in self-review as requested by the unit director. Patient Instruction: Provide instruction to patients and their families under the direction of the RN. Apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints as per physician or hospital protocol. Team Communication: Communicate clearly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team. Demonstrate understanding of cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in the health professions. Safety and Relationships: Support safety in the workplace and develop productive working relationships internally and externally by demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment to patients and colleagues. Policy Adherence: Strictly adhere to all policies and procedures related to patient care and hospital information. Comply with safety policies and procedures, including standard precautions. Department Support: Suggest and support changes within the department, assume responsibility for assignments, and view problems as challenges. Support department-based projects and quality initiatives. Documentation: Document in the medical record according to established procedures. Perform assigned work in a timely and productive manner and complete department clerical functions as needed. Advanced Skills: Achieve and maintain competency in at least one advanced skill based on department needs, such as phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, indwelling Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12-lead EKG, and NG tube clamping and removal.
