Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, WI is seeking a Patient Assistant to join our Medical/Pediatrics Department team!

The Patient Assistant is a member of the patient care team and has the primary duty of rounding on patients, answering call lights, and ensuring patient safety.

HOURS: Full-time, .9 FTE; 72 hours bi-weekly; Varied Shifts

Experience/Qualifications:

Checks in on patients per unit routine every hour or every two hours.Answers call lights on unit.Identifies opportunities to improve patient experience.Identifies opportunities to improve the Environment of Care, and patient and staff safety.Notifies Nurse or CNA of patient safety concerns.Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes and follows safety rules.Identifies opportunities to improve patient safety. Participates in projects/programs designed to reduce errors and improve safety. Verbally communicates observations and changes to nursing staff. Ensures a positive working environment within the patient care team and organization.Use of all communication systems and devices i.e., Vocera, tele-sitter software equipmentImmediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistanceParticipates in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arriving on unit and upon completion of shift assignment.Attends department meetings and in-services as required.Uses RELATE training and words that work

Essential:

Current BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire - All clinical personnel in identified job codes are required to maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) training through independent study, online manikin and knowledge testing. An acceptable training program is the Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider course from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross Professional Rescuer Program with AED.
