Qualcomm, a world leader in the development of wireless technology and products, relies on its valuable patent portfolio to generate substantial revenue for investment in research and development. Qualcomm seeks talented and motivated patent attorneys to apply their legal, technical, and communication skills with engineers and business units to develop high-quality, high-value patents throughout the world. Candidates should understand the technology, business plans, product roadmaps, industry practices, domestic and international patent laws, and desire to work in a cooperative atmosphere to achieve these goals. Specific responsibilities include portfolio management, managing outside counsel for strategic preparation and prosecution of patent assets, drafting responses to official communications, interviewing examiners, performing patent analyses including infringement, clearance, patentability and validity analyses, and collaborating with counsel across multiple jurisdictions to ensure compliance with local jurisdictional practices and laws. Other responsibilities include participating in design-around analysis, license and contract analysis, and performing due diligence analysis for potential acquisitions and investments.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Juris Doctorate degree or international equivalent.• 5+ years of relevant experience as counsel at a law firm or in-house.
• Active bar license to practice law in the state or jurisdiction where the employee will be practicing (or ability to obtain upon hiring).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.5+ years of patent law experience at a law firm or in-house.3+ years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution.2+ years of engineering experience in software, electrical, communications, or related fields.2+ years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution in software, electrical, communications, or related fields.2+ years of managing a portfolio, including budgets.US: Admitted to a state bar and in good standing.2+ years of experience in patent preparation, prosecution, or litigation experience.Applicants must be willing to register as in-house counsel with CA state bar if not already a member of Cal state bar.Qualcomm is an equal opportunity employer. Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:
$165,600.00 - $248,400.00The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
