Part-Time Professional Tutor - Center for Academic Success & Tutoring
Location: Farmingdale, NY Category: Professional Part-Time Posted On: Fri Feb 14 2025 Job Description: Professional Tutors provide high-quality tutoring for the Center for Academic Success & Tutoring (CAST). The ideal Professional Tutor is friendly and approachable, responsible and reliable, organized and efficient, and can work with a diverse student body while always maintaining a professional demeanor. The ideal candidate should also have solid interpersonal communication skills with a genuine desire to assist students. Professional Tutors work directly with students to help them clarify course concepts and materials, develop effective ways to learn the material, share learning resources and study strategies, and provide general course-related guidance. Tutors may also help with special tutoring-related projects or other duties as assigned by the Director. Prior undergraduate tutoring or teaching assistant experience is required. Candidates should have a firm understanding of the course material and curriculum as taught at Farmingdale State College. Please submit a resume and cover letter highlighting your qualifications. In your cover letter, include the specific courses you are qualified to tutor as well as the days/hours you are available to tutor for the upcoming semester. Letters of recommendation from faculty and copies of undergraduate transcripts demonstrating proficiency in course material will need to be provided. You will be contacted if a position becomes available that meets your qualifications and the Center's scheduling needs for the upcoming semester. The Center will not be accepting phone inquiries. Job Requirements: MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: + Bachelor's degree + Demonstrated proficiency in relevant subject area (as evident by transcripts and faculty recommendation letters) + Minimum of one-year undergraduate tutoring or teaching assistant (TA) experience + Ability to maintain a regular weekly tutoring schedule for the semester + Competent in technology and experience using Google Meet and video-conferencing software + Ability to work with a diverse student body + Solid interpersonal communication skills and a genuine desire to assist students ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: + Farmingdale State College graduate, or completed relevant undergraduate coursework at Farmingdale State College + Prior experience tutoring Farmingdale State College courses + An understanding of learning styles and the ability to convey material utilizing different methods Additional Information: + This is a part-time, temporary, professional staff position. Weekend or evening work may be required as needed. + SALARY: $20/hour. Salary may increase commensurate with experience.
