Savannah Technical College Continuing Education Program is seeking qualified, experienced, and knowledgeable working professionals who enjoy teaching to serve as part-time Adjunct Jockey Truck Instructors for Continuing Education. The ideal candidate will have a flexible schedule that would allow them to work either day or evening hours as needed. The individual will report to the Manager of Business & Industry Services and will primarily provide instruction at the Savannah Campus, but may be required to travel to other Savannah Technical College locations, which include the Effingham, Liberty, and Crossroads Campus and client locations as requested. The instructor must be able to teach students in classroom and behind-the-wheel of a jockey truck. May be required to participate in College committees and meetings, and perform other duties as assigned. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis in effort to establish an instructor pool, and will remain on file for one year.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (this list is not intended to be exhaustive)
Ā· Instructing students, developing program syllabi, goals and objectives;
Ā· Evaluating studentsā progress in attaining goals and objectives and advising students;
Ā· Requesting and maintaining supplies and equipment;
Ā· Maintaining program certification requirements, as appropriate;
Ā· Preparing and maintaining all required documentation and administrative reports;
Ā· Maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences;
Ā· Ensuring safety and security requirements are met in the classroom and lab environment.
Duties include a flexible schedule of lecture, student advisement and registration. Must be willing to work split teaching shifts that might require split teaching days between campus locations.
Minimum Requirements
Ā· High School Diploma or Equivalent
Ā· Valid Driverās License and proof of insurability
Ā· Must have a clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
Ā· Must have 2 years of Jockey Truck Driving experience within the past seven (7) years
Ā· 1 year of teaching experience at a post-secondary institution or 1 year of providing training assistance at a company
Ā· Working knowledge of a jockey truck and its components
Ā· Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills along with computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Ā· Diploma in Commercial Truck Driving preferred
Ā· Current Commercial Driverās License with Passenger (P) and/or School Bus (S) endorsements
Ā· 3 years of Jockey Truck Driving experience within the past seven (7) years
Ā· 2 years of teaching experience at a post-secondary institution or 2 years of providing training assistance at a company is desirable.
Note: Only on-campus opportunities exist at this time.
Physical Demands
Teaching responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for three (3) ā four (4) continuous hours at a time. The employee frequently lifts lightweight objects up to 50LBS. The work is performed in campus buildings and outdoors where the employee is occasionally exposed to cold or inclement weather. The exposure to dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, chemicals, and fumes is possible in the laboratory environment. The ability to distinguish colors is required for purposes of electrical wiring.
Salary
Salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Positions are typically appointed on a course-by-course basis.
