Paramedic/ED Technician-P - Roscoe Urgent Care
Overview Cares for patients, prepare and compiles records, and process orders in the hospital setting under direction of nursing staff, by performing the following duties, supporting the nursing philosophy. May include weekends, holidays, day, evening, night and or on-call hours. Roscoe, IL 24 Hours/2 Weeks Night Shift Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities The ED Technician - P role is required to meet unit competency and orientation requirements as defined for the ED Technician role, additionally demonstrating competency in: •Provides patient care as assigned and per routine, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures. •Answers telephone calls and call lights in a timely and appropriate manner •Documents care provided according to standards •Maintains a clean work and patient environment •Maintains and orders supplies, including scanning, stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies. •Processes orders in an accurate and timely manner. Provides information or relays messages to patients and staff.•Directs visitors to patients' rooms. Maintains medical records of current patients. Processes patient charges •Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities. Skills performed include but are not limited to: • Performs 12 Lead EKG’s • Cleaning and bandaging of wounds and suture sites. • Removal of sutures • Starts IV and administers medications within established scope practice • Obtains nasal, nasopharyngeal, throat and wound swabs • Obtains urine specimens • Performs venipunctures • Assists ED MD’s with intubation • Performs CPR during resuscitations utilizing the LUCAS as appropriate • Assist with splint applications • Assist with chest tube and CVP insertions by gathering needed supplies\equipment • Performs BGM’s • Performs assessments and reassessments after interventions • Transports non-monitored and monitored patients to the inpatient units • Receives prehospital run reports from incoming agencies, greets EMS and rooms EMS patients in appropriate areas • Provides other care at the appropriate level in accordance with direction from nursing and physician staff • Training/precepting new ED Technicians and/or EMT/Paramedic students in collaboration with the unit educator • Attaching patient to end-tidal CO2 monitoring (when applicable) • Managing and reporting collection devices: - Colostomy, ileostomy or other fecal management systems: care and output measures - Indwelling catheters: care and output measures - Nasogastric tubes to suction • Competent in completing manual process for blood pressure and required reporting of abnormal values to supervising RN • Discontinue invasive devices under the direction of the supervising RN: - Indwelling (Foley) catheters - Nasogastric tubes - Peripherally inserted intravenous catheters • Serves as a mentor to new hires and as a resource to all ED Technicians. • Supports newly hired ED Technicians for a minimum of three shifts, increasing the new hires workload as his/her progress and experience allows. • Oversees ED Technician orientation under the direction of the department educator, completing an orientation and competency check on new hire ED Technicians upon the completion of the orientation period. • Educates all newly hired ED Technicians regarding departmental procedures, safety and health issues, and other information. Coaches for improvement and educates staff for results. • Brings concerns and/or new ideas forward to the unit manager to improve care on the unit, reporting staff behavioral concerns to management immediately. • Completes documentation as appropriate for any care provided (food consumption, bowel movements, movement, and other documentation as assigned) • Serves as liaison to nursing management and the new ED Technicians. • Assist nursing and support service leadership in identifying process improvement opportunities as directed by leadership. • Processes patient charges and orders supplies as needed. Processes order requests in an accurate and timely manner. • Assists in acquisition of supplies for EMS • Restocks EMS supply room • Checks for outdated equipment and supplies • Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities. • Serves as a role model in Critical Moments of Service standards. • Special projects and other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Graduate of a Paramedic program. One year of healthcare and or pre-hospital experience as a paramedic required. Certification/Licensure Licensed as a Paramedic in applicable state. ApprovedCPR or BLS certification required within 90 days. Approved ACLS certification required within 90 days. Other certification(s) per unit requirements; For example: ACLS, PALS, NALS NREMT preferred Special Physical Demands The Special Physical Demands are considered Essential Job Functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
