**Job Summary** Reports to the Assistant General Counsel and provides support to other attorneys in the NiSource Legal department. Performs a variety of legal-related tasks under the direction of several attorneys.     **Essential Functions** + An experienced para-professional requires basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and may require vocational or technical education. ​ + Works under moderate supervision. ​ + Communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation. + Problems are typically of a routine nature but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures + Maintain a thorough knowledge of company and legal department procedures, and a working knowledge of applicable local, state and federal rules. + Recommend, create, implement and maintain improved systems, procedures and processes including electronic and paper-based filing systems. + Balance conflicting priorities to manage workflow, ensure the completion of essential projects, and meet critical deadlines. + Assist in the management of service of process and other legal notices, orders and filings, routine motions & pleading under the supervision of lawyers in the Legal Department. + Provide assistance and support for attorneys, clients and co-workers + Assist with the management and production of electronic information and documents. + Assist with case management, reporting, discovery, and trial preparation, in conjunction with both in-house and outside counsel, as directed. + Organize, maintain and assume responsibility for documents, files and records. + Draft documents and filings + May assist with collection of Board of Directors and Committee materials. + Recognize legal implications to the business + Overtime & travel as needed **Required Qualifications for Position** + Experience in the procedural and substantive aspects of commercial litigation or regulatory matters. + Ability to maintain confidentiality of all matters. + Understanding of basic court procedures, terminology and documents. + Ability to deal with people at all levels of the Company and to interface effectively with outside law firms. + Ability to perform research. + Excellent organizational skills. + Excellent oral and written communication. + Excellent reading comprehension. + Flexibility and a willingness to learn. + Strong problem solving & logic skills. + Aptitude for attention to detail, accuracy and precision. + Ability to work independently and on teams with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills. + Ability to learn software programs. + Proficiency in the Microsoft suite, in particular Excel and Power Point. **Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position** + Experience in regulatory law compliance requirements. + Experience in litigation matters. + Experience in the procedural and substantive aspects of commercial litigation. + Experience in financing and other corporate transactions.
