Posting Details Position Information Job Title Paid Internship Sophia's Garden Transportation and Media Coordinator - Spring 2025 Department Philosophy Job Description/Duties Sophia’s Garden (SG) is an institute located in the Center for Ethics, Peace, and Social Justice (CEPS). CEPS is an initiative of the Philosophy Department at SUNY Cortland. Sophia’s Garden is a project that allows SUNY Cortland students to gain knowledge and experience teaching local children philosophy through the examination and discussion of picture books. The goals of Sophia’s Garden encompass two broad areas: first, to provide SUNY Cortland students, many of whom are pre-service teachers, with quality immersive training and experience teaching young children about philosophy while also building their literacy skills. Second, Sophia’s Garden seeks to provide a service to the local community through teaching elementary school age children the basic elements of philosophical thinking and familiarity with picture books.
We are looking for a paid intern to help with the following tasks in support of Sophia’s Garden: Facilitate transportation for student volunteers for Sophia’s Garden sites within the county Supporting role for newsletter/content creation Interviewing student volunteers for program Days/Hours Needed 8 hours per week during Spring 2025 semester, in order to also receive 3 credits for this internship.
Hours: to be determined; some early mornings such as 7:40 to 8:40 a.m. Campus Location/Bldg. Old Main Required Qualifications Must be a current SUNY Cortland student of sophomore, junior, or senior status Candidate must be reliable, responsible, timely, work independently, enjoy teamwork Must have good communication skills Familiarity with web tasks, social media, apps Must have valid NYS Driver’s license Must be able to pass SUNY Cortland’s van training course (provided at no cost) and drive a passenger van (For more information about van training and student driver application process, please go to: https://www2.cortland.edu/offices/fos/transportation/van-training)
Preferred Qualifications Students who have volunteered for Sophia’s Garden in the past.
