The Packaging Manager is accountable for products packaging. The incumbent manages manpower, materials and energies in order to fulfill the Sales & Operational Plan, delivering the packaged product On-Time-In-Full at the lowest possible cost.

 

People Management and Development:


•    Prepare training needs analysis and develop training plans accordingly. 
•    Monitor that training delivers the expected results.
•    Ensure career development is in line with the strategic business needs.
•    Maintain a good and healthy work environment in the department.
•    Apply Company’s policies in terms of recruitment, compensation, and people development.
•    Conduct performance reviews for subordinates. 


Plant and process operations:


•    Manage the packaging process, applying the Company’s Rules, Standards & Procedures.
•    Monitor process and product parameters, ensuring respect of specifications.
•    Actively collaborate with the Quality Department in order to interpret results (also making use of statistic tools) and use them as a leverage for improvement.
•    Facilitate GSC audits at the brewery and implement corrective action when required.
•    Monitor and reduces extract losses whenever possible.
•    Ensure sampling plan is applied by packaging operators.
•    Support the Plant Manager in establishing “lean” ways of working that can positively impact productivity.
•    Monitor OPI and make sure structural improvement plans are produced and 
     implemented, also using TPM.
•    Ensure plant is operated according to the suppliers’ instructions and manuals.
•    Ensure plant is effectively maintained and planned maintenance is applied (SAHARA).
•    Prepare recovery plans, if necessary.
•    Manage modifications of process control and installation, ensuring respective manuals are updated.
•    Ensure formal failure analysis techniques are applied to recover in case of breakdowns (for instance, Breakdown Analysis, 5Why). 


Programs and Systems:


•    Facilitate implementation of Company strategic programs (i.e., TPM).
•    Facilitate implementation of Company systems.


Investments:


•    Together with Plant Manager and Production managers, develop capacity plans in order to cope with the future cidery requirements.
•    Propose investments in order to improve the quality of the supply; the continuity of operations; the capacity of the installations and/or the productivity of the lines.
•    Support the Technical Department in managing the implementation and installation of the investments.


Planning:


•    Ensure adherence to production and packaging planning and deploys resources accordingly, in the most cost-effective way.
•    Ensure adequate stock of packaging and auxiliary materials is kept in order to secure continuity of operations.


Budget:


•    Support the Plant Manager in preparing the department budget, in terms of materials and human resources.
•    Monitor actual versus planned results and take effective measures in case of deviations.
•    Share results with team leaders in Packaging Department in order to have understanding and buy-in.


Environment:


•    Reduce extract losses.
•    Ensure waste reduction in the process.
•    Ensure that the Packaging Department actively collaborates for the smooth operation – and within the legal limits - of the WWTP.
•    Create awareness in the organization about the correct operation of the WWTP.
•    Manage resource in a sustainable way; identify possibilities in order to reduce water and energy consumption.
•    Support the Energy Saving Program.


Safety:


•    Ensure plant operation is carried out in compliance with safety rules and regulations.
•    Enforce the use of PPE’s.
•    Make sure “Safe Work Permit” is carried out whenever necessary.
•    Proactively manage safety of contractors together with SHE Engineer and colleagues from Technical Department.
•    Promote implementation of Accident Registration and Analysis when necessary and support the SHE Engineer during the investigation of the root causes for accidents.
•    Make sure housekeeping is maintained to the highest standards in the Packaging Department.


Other deliverables:


•    Contribute to the Company’s Health & Safety Policy
•    TPM
    TPM teams facilitator and member (if requested).
    TPM Pillar member (if requested).


Education:


•    Engineering Degree or equivalent


Experience:

 

•    3 years experience as a Departmental Manager in a food manufacturing environment or 5 years experience as a Team Leader in a food manufacturing environment.
