The primary responsibilities of a Packaging Engineer I are to provide support to the internal customer base of Wells Enterprises in: 1) New Product Development (NPD) 2) Plant troubleshooting on packaging materials 3) Specification Management 4) Qualification of materials and vendors.

Has demonstrated the problem-solving skills essential to continuous improvement and root cause analysis. Capable of providing technical knowledge on the range of packaging mediums utilized at Wells. Understands and has the capability to perform physical and functional attribute testing on packaging material; and utilizes the software available for packaging development and analysis. Understands the steps in NPD and the role and responsibility of the Packaging Engineer in the process. Is capable of providing the necessary packaging expertise to deliver to Marketing the design and specification required. Is capable of developing and updating (as required) specifications for packaging into the business operating software (Oracle). Follows the Packaging Development process as outlined. Has established relationships with key vendors and utilizes the contacts and material expertise of industry professionals as necessary in the daily work. Recommends packaging improvements that may lead to operational efficiency improvements, lower waste and reduce total costs.
