Packaging Designer - Foschini Beauty

The opportunity:

As a Packaging Designer you will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and executing packaging solutions that align with an existing brand identity and product aesthetics as well as come up with new designs for future brands, within the TFG Beauty division.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, product development, and production.

 

Responsibilities:

Conceptualise and Design: Develop packaging concepts that reflect the brand’s image and product characteristics, ensuring a visually appealing and cohesive look.  Graphic Design: Create eye-catching graphics, logos, and artwork to enhance packaging designs, ensuring they stand out on store shelves and online platforms. Material Selection: Choose appropriate materials and finishes that align with product requirements and sustainability goals, optimizing both aesthetics and cost-effectiveness. Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, product development, and suppliers, to ensure packaging designs meet project objectives and timelines. Prototype and Testing: Develop prototypes and conduct testing to assess packaging functionality, durability, and user experience. Cost Management: Collaborate with procurement and suppliers to optimize packaging costs while maintaining design integrity. Market Research: Stay updated on industry trends, competitor packaging, and emerging design technologies to keep our brand at the forefront of cosmetics packaging. Interpreting of briefs from the various TFG Business Units in developing personal care, skin care, and fragrance ranges. Layout and design with the ability to carry a project from concept to completion Ensure consistency of all design material to brand guidelines and/or CI’s Meticulous attention to detail & ability to problem solve in a challenging retail environment Present conceptual designs and reworks Constantly enhancing the creative to ensure the brands stay relevant Work closely with the technical and buying teams to develop effective product designs and VM execution Thorough understanding of the artwork repro (DTP) process and understanding of printing techniques and substrates Staying abreast of design trends Research product trends and competitor product beauty offering Efficiently manage deliverables within the TFG Beauty team and the individual TFG Brand Divisions Participate in brainstorming sessions and workshops

 

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Packaging Design, or a related field. 3+ years of experience in packaging design, (with a focus on cosmetics being an advantage). Strong portfolio showcasing packaging design projects. Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite). Knowledge of industry-standard packaging design tools and technologies. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Creativity: Demonstrate a strong sense of creativity and innovation in packaging design, while also adhering to brand guidelines. Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities. Cosmetics Knowledge: Knowledge of cosmetics packaging, including materials, regulations, and industry trends is an advantage. Graphic Design: Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) to create visually appealing and impactful packaging designs. Collaboration: Strong teamwork and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external suppliers. Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail and the ability to ensure that every aspect of the packaging design is flawless. Sustainability Awareness: Familiarity with sustainable packaging practices and the ability to incorporate eco-friendly solutions into designs. Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of printing processes, die-cutting, and packaging production techniques.
