Overhead Door Technician
Position: Overhead Door Technician

Objective: Ensure the operational efficiency, safety, and reliability of all existing overhead door systems within the facility to support production, logistics, and safety requirements.

1. Preventive Maintenance Tasks: Conduct scheduled inspections of all overhead doors (e.g., monthly, or quarterly, depending on usage). Lubricate moving parts such as hinges, rollers, and springs to reduce wear. Check and adjust tension in springs and cables. Test motorized operators, safety sensors, and emergency release mechanisms. Inspect weather seals and replace as needed to maintain environmental control (e.g., dust, temperature). Deliverables: Maintenance logs documenting inspections and actions taken. Minimized downtime due to proactive upkeep. 2. Repairs and Troubleshooting Tasks: Diagnose and repair malfunctioning overhead doors, including mechanical, electrical, or automation issues. Replace damaged or worn components (e.g., panels, tracks, motors, or control boards). Respond to emergency breakdowns to restore functionality and prevent production delays. Test repairs to ensure doors meet operational and safety standards. Deliverables: Rapid resolution of door-related issues. Detailed repair reports with root cause analysis and parts replaced. 3. Safety and Compliance Tasks: Ensure all overhead doors comply with safety regulations (e.g., ANSI standards, OSHA requirements). Verify proper functioning of safety features like auto-reverse mechanisms and photoelectric sensors. Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards (e.g., pinch points, falling risks). Train facility staff on safe operation and emergency procedures for overhead doors. Deliverables: Safety certification or compliance documentation. Reduced risk of accidents or injuries related to door systems. 4. Protection Measures for Overhead Doors Tasks: Install protective barriers or bollards near high-traffic doors to prevent vehicle collisions. Apply anti-corrosion coatings or treatments to metal components in areas exposed to moisture or chemicals (e.g., paint booths). Recommend and implement impact-resistant panels or reinforcements for doors in heavy-use zones (e.g., loading docks). Ensure proper drainage systems around doors to prevent water damage or rust. Inspect and reinforce door anchoring systems to withstand environmental factors (e.g., wind loads in large bay doors). Monitor and mitigate wear from production-related debris (e.g., metal shavings, dust) by installing protective guards or seals. Deliverables: Enhanced durability and longevity of overhead doors. Reports on protective measures implemented and their effectiveness. 5. Inventory and Documentation Tasks: Collaborate with the inventory team to acquire and justify consumables (e.g., lubricants, seals), spare parts (e.g., springs, rollers, motors), and tooling needs. Provide detailed justifications for inventory requests based on usage patterns, repair frequency, and preventive maintenance schedules. Document all work performed, including maintenance schedules, repairs, and protection measures, to support inventory planning and audits. Deliverables: Accurate and justified requests for consumables, spares, and tooling submitted to the inventory team. Comprehensive service records for operational continuity and auditing purposes. 6. Collaboration and Support Tasks: Coordinate with production managers to schedule maintenance, repairs, or protection upgrades during non-peak hours. Work with other maintenance teams (e.g., HVAC, electrical) to address integrated systems affecting overhead doors. Provide technical input for facility upgrades or expansions involving overhead door systems and their protection. Deliverables: Seamless integration with facility operations. Recommendations on Facility upgrades or expansions involving overhead door systems and their protection. Qualifications Experience with industrial overhead door systems (e.g., 2+ years preferred). Knowledge of electrical systems and automation controls. Familiarity with protective coatings, barriers, and environmental safeguards. Ability to read blueprints and technical manuals. Certification in overhead door repair (e.g., IDEA accreditation) is a plus.
