About the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites:

Role Overview:
Indiana State Museum is seeking an intermittent Out of School Time educator to facilitate GSK Science in the Summer programs at offsite locations. The educator would work with the Engagement department for the months of May through the end of July during the 2025 summer session. This position has up to 15 hours a week. Training and preparation will occur in May at the museum. In June and July, most of the hours will be spent teaching programs offsite. This position will pay $16.73 an hour. Most programs will occur between 10:00am – 6:00pm Monday through Friday, with the possibility of some evening/ weekend programs.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
+ Implement and teach outreach programs at locations in the Indianapolis area during the months of June and July
+ Modify program activities as necessary to better meet student needs
+ Engage students grades 2nd – 6th in hands-on STEM activities with a focus on biology and paleontology
+ Mentor and encourage creativity, exploration, and a hands-on, open-ended learning environment
+ Manage inventory of program materials
+ Complete training in May
+ Preparation of program material kits in May
+ Communication with educator cohort
+ Collect data from partners through late July
+ Travel to Indianapolis area partner sites to observe programs in June and July
+ Participate in program feedback meetings at the end of summer programming
+ Other duties as assigned
What You'll Need for Success:
+ High school diploma required. Bachelor’s degree or degree seeking preferred
+ Experience working with children aged K-8
+ Formal/informal teaching experience preferred
+ Strong communication skills with large groups of children
+ Ability to work May through end of July, no programs week of July 1st – 5th
+ Ability to work between the hours of 9:00 and 5:00, with varied hours
+ Able to work some evenings / weekends as needed
+ Must be comfortable working independently
+ Reliable transportation needed
+ Completion of online child protection course upon hiring
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period
