Position Details

Stewards Individual Placements (SIP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. SIP, in partnership with the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE), seeks a motivated and detail-oriented intern who will join the National Technical Training Program (NTTP). This is a unique opportunity to work with a federal agency dedicated to protecting and reclaiming mined lands, ensuring the development of the nation’s energy resources, and promoting environmental stewardship.

The OSMRE Course Travel Coordinator will work with OSMRE staff to Perform the administrative logistical support work of coordinating arrangements for the approximately 65 State, Native American, and OSMRE's offices that participate in OSMRE's National Technical Training Program (NTTP). They will provide logistics and travel support for Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act (SMCRA) operations across the country. Specifically, they will support approximately 10 training sessions/200 students, with administrative support. NTTP Directly support reclamation activities and the intern's work will indirectly support the current administrations climate goals.

 

Position Responsibilities will include:

·       Coordination: Assist in coordinating arrangements for approximately 65 State, Native American, and OSMRE offices that participate in NTTP.

·       Travel Documentation: Work with course coordinators to ensure the processing of travel documentation in DOI's Travel Management System.

·       Market Research: Conduct market research for hotel, transportation, and supplies procurement.

·       Communication: Draft and edit informational memorandums and correspondence relating to technical training and all OSMRE training functions.

·       Technical Skills: Utilize personal computer software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database software, as well as OSMRE/DOI systems to meet program objectives.

·       Student Nominations: Screen, review, and process student nominations manually and in DOI's Learning Management System (LMS).

 

 Preferred Qualifications:

·       Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program.

·       Strong organizational and communication skills.

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

·       Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

·       A keen interest in environmental protection, mining, and technical training.
