To provide supervision, mentoring and training to Cast Techs, Ortho Techs and Certified Orthopaedic Technologists. Recommendations required from leaders. May go to OR, ER, Floor, etc. to assist. . KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Assists orthopaedic surgeons and residents with preventing or correcting disorders of the locomotor structures of the body. • Supervises day to day operations in the cast room(s) and be responsible for daily staffing and schedule changes/assignments (does not manage others directly). • Assists in the education/training of medical students, residents and ortho cast techs. • Manages inventory of medical supplies for the Orthopaedic Clinic and completes ordering and keeps up with cast room inventory needs assessment. • The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned. • Precepting new hires, organizes and implements annual competency check offs for cast techs and ortho techs. • Wound care, dressing changes, suture and pin removal, removal of external fixator threaded pin and percutaneous pins and drains. • Application of Wound Vac, Mepliex Silver Dressing and Application and removal of all cast, splints, and immobilization devices. • Educate Residents, Nurse Practitioners, ED Residents, Orientation of New Hires, Annual in-service, and competency training for ortho cast techs, ortho techs and certified ortho tech staff. • May go to ER, Floor and OR to assist with complex cast, splinting, etc. TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES • Training & Development (Novice): Has presented course modules as part of a program. Effectively prepared by demonstrating knowledge in course content, structure and objectives, as well as audience characteristics. Demonstrated audience sensitivity and awareness. Responded professionally to content questions. • Inventory Management (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate Inventory Management skills in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Demonstrates basic expertise with Inventory Management tools, procedures and processes. Monitors material moved into and out of stockroom locations and reconciles inventory balances. Works with electronic catalogs. • Orthopaedics (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of Orthopaedics in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering results without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job. • Cast Application & Removal (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of cast application and removal in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering results without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
