SEIU TX is seeking full-time Organizers/Member Representatives in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.
Organizer/Member Representatives perform several duties, including recruiting new members,
identifying potential leaders and activists, organizing unionwide campaigns, organizing
campaigns specific to assigned worksites, tracking data for assigned worksites, assisting
members through potential concerns or issues, and other duties as required by the campaign. Our
organizers help develop strong worksite leaders by guiding and coaching members in organizing,
problem-solving, communications, and member engagement.
Applicants should have a working knowledge of unions, familiarity with the Service Employees
International Union, and a strong commitment to social justice. Organizing experience is
important. This job requires irregular hours, some weekend work, and occasional travel.
Summary of Job Functions:
● Conducting broad and intensive outreach efforts to non-union and union workers.
● Identifying, recruiting and developing worker leaders.
● Conducting individual and group meetings with workers to move organizing campaigns
forward.
● Engaging, motivating and mobilizing workers to take action.
● Planning and carrying out actions and events to support worker organizing efforts.
● Handle individual and group problem-solving and grievance-related issues that arise at
assigned worksites
● Make appointments for worksite visits and one-on-one visits
● Attend daily or weekly meetings with supervisors to discuss progress and make plans
● Enter assessments and other data collected in a database on a weekly and daily basis
● Assist with the overall union organizing program and growth of the local
● Utilize numerous organizing tactics including home visiting, cold phone calls, worksite
visits
● Be able to communicate effectively in writing, in speaking, and via electronic media
● Be able to work with databases, able to create basic flyers and other written material
● Lead and assist with training
● Conduct daily worksite visits to demonstrate a Union presence to both the members and
● Management
● Distributes all Union leaflets, bulletins and information in institutions amongst delegates
and
● members
● Form joint employer/Union committees to ensure CBA is followed
● Conduct new member orientation
● Attend and assists with leadership trainings as well as delegate trainings
● Attend and participate in staff and team meetings
● Write up reports, grievance reports, arbitration requests and withdrawals
● Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
● Minimum one-year of professional organizing experience; union organizing preferred
● Some knowledge of unions in non-collective bargaining situations, understanding of
labor unions, and social movement values
● Ability to calendar and schedule meetings and other tasks
● Computer literacy is required, some database experience is preferred, and knowledge of
G-Suite, and Canva is necessary
● Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
● Ability to travel to assigned worksites
● Ability to work independently
● Ability to meet deadlines
● Excellent communication skills
● Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
● Ability to work independently, solve problems, and manage time and priorities
● Ability to work long hours, including nights and weekends
