As part of the Display and Optics organization in Reality Labs, you will be responsible for the optical design and product development of core optical modules for future products. The focus of this position is on optical design of complex devices, coming up with module architectures, working with vendors and internal partners to develop manufacturable products, and ensuring successful integration with the rest of the system to guarantee customer-facing performance.
**Required Skills:**
Optical Device Modelling Engineer Responsibilities:
1. Design and develop optical modules for future near-eye displays.
2. Build predictive optical models, validate designs and models with metrology data to close the loop between simulations and measurements.
3. Translate feature requirements to hardware optical specifications, and assess optical performance through rigorous tolerance analysis based on manufacturing capabilities.
4. Support design validation, lab characterization, and failure analysis of optical modules and systems.
5. Support module build and system integration activities at manufacturing partners.
6. General research and development of emerging concepts in display, illumination, and imaging optics technology domains.
**Minimum Qualifications:**

7. Bachelor’s degree in the field of Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent experience.
8. Experience with one or more of the following optics domains: imaging optics, lens design, illumination, radiometry and photometry, geometric or physical optics, projector design.
9. Experience using scripting languages and data analysis tools such as Python, JMP, or MATLAB.
10. Experience working with optical design software such as Meep, Lumerical, LightTools, Zemax, Code V, FRED, or similar.

11. MS or PhD degree in the field of Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
12. Experience working with external vendors to deliver custom optical components, modules, or systems, involving challenging optical requirements to drive innovative fabrication process development, and new opto-mechanical integration and metrology techniques.
13. Experience in developing optical modules or systems in highly multidisciplinary environments, including setting specifications, determining test methods, and overall module and system integration.
14. Process development and failure analysis experience for optical components and modules such as cameras, sensors, or illumination/projector systems.
15. Experience with display technologies such as LEDs and OLEDs.
16. Experience with multiple full life-cycle product launches.
