Job Description:
Work with multiple LAKEWATCH staff at the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences (SFFGS) to help facilitate “hands-on” citizen science participation through monthly monitoring activities. This role involves assisting both lab and extension staff with a range of responsibilities. Responsibilities include:
+ Washing, drying, and organizing laboratory sample bottles, glass and plastic tubes and other laboratory glassware; Help maintain and clean all laboratory workspaces.
+ Prepares sample bottle packs, filter packs and data sheets for collection centers; purchase laboratory and field supplies as requested by supervisor.
+ Drive to multiple sample collection centers located across Florida and transport samples back to the LAKEWATCH laboratory for processing.
+ Prepares field sampling kits for citizen volunteers, which includes making Secchi disks; repairs and maintains sampling equipment.
+ Must be willing to work outdoors occasionally in varying weather conditions.
+ Occasional field sampling, data entry and other duties as needed.
Able to work in person on UF’s Millhopper campus at 7922 NW 71stSt., Gainesville, FL 32653.
Expected Salary:
$13-$15 an hour; commensurate with education and experience.
Minimum Requirements:
Valid Florida Driver’s License. Able to lift 50 lbs. Able to work in person on UF’s Millhopper campus at 7922 NW 71stSt., Gainesville, FL 32653.
Preferred Qualifications:
No experience required, motivated and confident self-starter to work independently and alongside LAKEWATCH staff is preferred.
