The OPS Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive health care to clients, including diagnosing and treating acute, episodic, and chronic illness and helping to prevent diseases and injuries as part of a medical home team. The successful applicant must be available to work at least 3 days per week and be able to work 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Your Specific Responsibilities: + Provide comprehensive health care to clients in various clinic settings + Prescribe medication dosages, routes, and frequencies based on patient characteristics such as age and gender. + Order, perform, interpret and/or evaluate the results of diagnostic tests, such as urinalysis, smears, complete blood counts (CBCs), electrocardiograms (EKGs), and radiographs (x-rays) to identify and assess patient's condition. + Analyze and interpret patient histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses. + Develop treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines. + Diagnose or treat acute health care problems such as illnesses, infections, or injuries. + Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized. + Counsel patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other substances such as food supplements, over-the-counter (OTC) medications, or herbal remedies. + Recommend interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks. + Educate patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients' individual circumstances. + Prescribe or recommend medications or other forms of treatment. + Makes appropriate referrals for specialty care. + Provide case management and consultation for staff. + Coordinate patient care activities with physician and/or involved staff. + Instruct on topics such as health education and disease prevention. + Participate in quality assurance activities including meetings and peer review. + Ensure cooperation and coordination between Clinical Services Division, Disease Control and other divisions regarding clinical issues. + Comply with HEDIS measure, Meaningful Use standards, productivity standards, and selected goals for quality of care. Required Knowledge, skills and abilities : + Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology + Ability to identify and evaluate illnesses + Ability to manage the care of patients + Ability to work with patients having a variety of physical problems + Ability to use judgment and decision-making + Ability to use critical thinking + Ability to communicate effectively + Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others + Skill in the operation of a computer and various software programs Qualifications: Minimum- + Clear and active license in the state of Florida to practice as an APRN + Current active Florida Nursing License or a multistate license from another compact state + Willingness to travel and cover at multiple clinic sites in Pinellas County as needed for coverage + Available to work at least 3 days per week, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. + Valid Florida drivers license + Access to reliable transportation + One year experience working as an APRN Preferred + Three or more years of experience in Internal or Family Medicine clinic setting + Active DEA licensure in the state of Florida + Licensed to practice as an Autonomous APRN Florida Department of Health Mission, Vision, and Values: Mission: To protect, promote & improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county & community efforts.
