Opinion Team Internship - Summer 2025

The Houston Chronicle Opinion Team is seeking a passionate and motivated intern for Summer 2025. This role is ideal for aspiring journalists eager to amplify diverse voices, engage with critical community discussions, and gain hands-on editorial experience.

What You'll Do:

Collaborate closely with opinion editors to commission, edit, fact-check, and produce a variety of content, including traditional op-eds, essays, multimedia opinion pieces, and short responses to our "Question of the Week." Identify and solicit unique and diverse perspectives on breaking news and trending topics. Review unsolicited opinion submissions, ensuring accuracy and editorial standards. Assist reader engagement initiatives, such as newsletters, comment callouts, and digital forms, to actively involve community voices. Verify contributor identities and maintain productive communication throughout the editing and publishing process. Strategically share opinion content across digital platforms, enhancing audience reach and engagement. Pursue a writing or editing project tailored to your interests and aligned with our team's goals.

Qualifications:

Demonstrated passion for journalism and editorial work. Strong communication skills and attention to detail, especially in fact-checking and editing. Ability to secure housing in Houston for the duration of the internship.

Internship Details:

Duration: 10 weeks, from June to August 2025 Hours: Approximately 30 hours per week (Monday through Thursday), with occasional weekend coverage Location: Hybrid schedule with a requirement of 3 days per week in-office at the Houston Chronicle Compensation: $15 per hour
