SUMMARY:

Screens and checks in patients and escorts patients to treatment areas.  Shall assist with all aspects of patient care, to include performing initial medical screening of patients including history, distance and near visual acuity with and without correction or pinhole, pupillary light reflex, and applanation tonometry.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accurately prepares room & patient for examinations, therapeutic measures and procedures assuring all needed equipment and supplies are available prior to the start of the exam. Takes, monitors, and records physiological measurements. Performs medical treatment, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures per extender treatment protocols. Prepares and administers medications under the supervision of a nurse or health care provider. Provides patient/parent education, primarily discussing formal risk of laser surgery, as requested. Performs ophthalmic studies including autorefraction, keratometry, tonometry, visual field test, pachymetry, ophthalmic photography, and be able to establish a sterile field and assist with minor surgical procedures.  Performs ophthalmology services in the Refractive Laser Center.  On occasion, when the Refractive Surgery Center patient workload permits, the Ophthalmology Technicians may be required to assist with day-to-day operations in 10th Medical Group Ophthalmology clinic.  Ensures all equipment is properly cleaned and stored at the end of each work shift. Ensure preventive maintenance and routine cleaning are performed as directed. Chaperones patients, when necessary, by escorting them to various offices or clinics located within the 10th Medical Group. Provides patients with the utmost care and attention. All patients shall be assured of their privacy and personal dignity. Maintains a professional manner and displays a positive cooperative attitude. Maintains regular and punctual attendance. Performs other duties as assigned.
