JOB SUMMARY
The Ophthalmic Assistant II functions as a member of the healthcare team by providing basic ophthalmic, technical and clerical support to assist providers in providing for patient care, comfort, and safety. The individual will complete optometric/ophthalmic tests and measurements as ordered by the provider and will assist providers with procedures. The Ophthalmic Assistant II performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic Health Systems’ (MCHS) mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Successful completion of a medical terminology course within six months of hire. Employees in this job joining MCHS through acquisition may be grandfathered due to an education requirement variance.
Preferred/Optional: Graduate of a medical assistant program. Successful completion of a medical terminology course at time of hire.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: One year of prior Ophthalmic experience. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification may be accepted in lieu of one year experience.
Preferred/Optional: Experience in Ophthalmology or Optometry.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association within three months of hire. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification awarded by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) within two years’ of Ophthalmic Assistant II position.
Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association at time of hire. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification awarded by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) at time of hire.
