Sunflower Bank, N.A. is looking for an energetic, highly motivated individual to fill the position of a full-time Operational Risk Program Manager at our Overland Park, KS location.
Summary
The Operational Risk Program Manager is responsible for performing second line of defense activities for the development, implementation, and execution of the organization’s Operational Risk Management (ORM) program. This role oversees the first line of defense activities through objective risk assessment, effective challenge, monitoring, and reporting of Sunflower Bank’s risk profile, including top and emerging risks.
Primary Responsibilities
Creates and maintains team owned policies, standards, and/or procedures for ORM processes, including but not limited to, the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) program, operational risk monitoring and reporting, and change risk managementLeads project execution related to design and maturation of Operational Risk Management Programs while supporting other risk pillarsEngage with, influence, and lead business-line partners at all levels within the organization, participate in governance and management committee reporting, and ensures consistent application of the operational risk program throughout the three lines of defenseMaintains a strong knowledge of operational risk management developments or changes within the organization, industry, and external environment and communicates the applicability through reporting, training, and/or updates to risk assessmentsDevelops and/or maintains active relationships within professional networks to remain current on emerging risks, best practices, and regulatory changesConsults on risk management techniques, practices, and processes to protect Sunflower Bank from operational lossesLeverages subject matter expertise to provide objective oversight of risks via effective challengeFacilitates reporting and interdepartmental collaboration, including identification for new and challenge to existing Key Risk Indicators (KRI)Identifies gaps and opportunities for enhancement of controlsParticipates in internal audits and regulatory examinations, including gathering and providing documentation to support requestsPerform the job in accordance with applicable industry laws and regulations as well as the policies and procedures established by the companyResponsible for upholding the Code of Ethics and Conduct guidelinesPerform other duties as assignedEducation / Experience
Bachelor’s degree, Business or Finance preferredFive to seven years of experience working in risk management, operational risk management experience preferred, internal audit, regulatory agency, line of business to be supported, or any combination of the aforementionedExperience with risk identification, assessment, and mitigation of material operational risksDirect experience executing and/or developing operational risk programs, including RCSA, new/modified products and services, operational loss reporting, and other operational risk-related projectsIn-depth knowledge of operational risk management practices and regulatory requirementsExpertise in RCSA, control testing, and key risk indicators development and managementAbility to manage duties independently with limited supervisionEmbody a solution-focused perspective with ability to proactively offer strategic recommendationsStrong analytical and critical thinking skillsUnderstanding of project management techniques and change management principlesExcellent communication skills – verbal and writtenExperience in credibly challenging peers and senior leadersStrong organizational skillsAbility to maintain the highest level of confidentialityProficiency using SmartSheets and Microsoft Office Suite – bonus for PowerBI expertiseAbility to establish trust-based relationships with stakeholders across the enterpriseStrong team player who is open to listening, understanding, and collaborating with senior management when introducing new ideasSunflower Bank Benefits
