The Department of Fire Protection Engineering FPE at the University of Maryland offers a unique opportunity in fire protection engineering education to fill the position of James Milke Endowed Professor of Practice Appointment can be at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor depending on whether candidates have the necessary qualifications and experience see httpsfacultyumdedutaxonomyterm131 Any questions concerning the appointment can be addressed to the Department Chair atrouveumdedu The ideal candidate will teach a minimum of five 5 courses per academic year will actively mentor FPE students and will facilitate involvement with professional societies standards organizations and representatives of industry and will assist with technology transfer of fundamental research being conducted in the department The position should be understood as being primarily in person and should conform to the telework policy of the University of MarylandThe ideal candidate will be familiar with topics such as the design of fire protection systems including detection and alarm automatic suppression systems egress and smoke control systems fire resistant construction life safety considerations engineering design guides and standards related to fire protection systems and buildings contemporary developments in fire protection system hardware and analysis and computational methods that support the development of fire protection designs This appointment is for five years with reappointment possibleThe FPE Department offers the only ABET accredited BS Degree in Fire Protection Engineering The graduate program offers a research master of science degree and a professional master of engineering degree The department has an active PhD program that is administered by other engineering departments The department is located in a state of the art facility with expanded offices and laboratories Access is also available to additional fire facilities on campus and the campus is in proximity to major government fire laboratories Fire Protection Engineering is one of the eight departments in the A James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland College ParkThe A James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland serves as the catalyst for high quality research innovation and learning preparing our students to create innovations that will address the 21st century Grand Challenges eg energy environment security and human health and improve the human condition The Clark School is dedicated to leading and transforming the engineeringdiscipline and profession to accelerating entrepreneurship and to transforming research and learning activities into new innovations that benefit millions
