OPEN RANK: Assistant, Specialist, or Lead Specialist in Laboratory Research
*The University of Maryland Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a Lab Research ASSISTANT, SPECIALIST or LEAD SPECIALIST in the Translational Neuroengineering and Neuroscience Laboratory.*/The position will be filled based on selected candidate's qualifications/. Primary responsibilities are to perform animal research activities and animal clinical care in a laboratory setting with a variety of species, with relevant in vitro studies. The position will play a role in multifaceted scientific projects, on a committed team with the opportunity for scientific collaboration. Lab interests: 1) glycol-engineered neural stem cells or therapeutic hypothermia to improve brain outcome after cardiac arrest and underlying mechanisms; 2)Stem cell surface modification to promote nerve regeneration after peripheral nerve injuries (PNIs). The research projects of our team focus on these aims to investigate electrophysiological and cellular mechanisms of brain injury after cardiac arrest with therapeutic intervention such as stem cell therapy and target temperature management, including using in vitro and in vivo models for brain monitoring by EEG and somatosensory evoked potentials. Our primary goals are to develop new therapeutic strategies for brain injury after cardiac arrest and elucidating the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms. In the PNI project, we will enhance adipose stem cell adhesion and differentiation in vitro via stem cell surface modification, and improve nerve regeneration with stem cell or exosome therapy after critical-sized nerve repair to explore related therapeutic mechanisms. The department aims to excel and innovate in the clinical practice, science, and neurosurgery education. We seek to achieve this by creating a platform and culture whereby all team members contribute to this mission and reach their full capacity for impact and fulfillment. Critical to our success is each team member’s alignment and demonstration of our shared values: • Patients First • Always Do the Right Thing • Leave It Better Than You Found It • Drive to Master ** *BENEFITS (Exempt Regular):* UMB offers a comprehensive benefits package that prioritizes wellness, work/life balance, and professional development, along with additional exciting perksthat employees can take advantage of.
