Position Summary:
The OpCo Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing the E2E management and efficient operation of a multi-site fleet of vehicles in a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company. The role requires ensuring the fleet operates efficiently, cost-effectively, The Fleet Manager will work closely with site managers, drivers, the procurement team, and maintenance personnel to optimize vehicle performance, safety, and reliability across various locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Fleet Operations Management: Manage the day-to-day operations of the fleet across multiple sites, ensuring timely delivery and distribution of goods. Coordinate with site teams to ensure vehicle availability and optimal usage. Monitor fleet utilization and adjust operations to reduce downtime and maximize efficiency. Fleet Maintenance & Compliance: Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize vehicle breakdowns and prolong fleet lifespan. Ensure all vehicles are properly maintained, inspected, and compliant with local and national regulations, including licensing, permits, and environmental standards. Collaborate with third-party maintenance providers to manage repairs and servicing. Cost Control & Budget Management: Monitor and control fleet-related expenses, including fuel, repairs, leasing, insurance, and tolls. Develop cost-saving strategies and negotiate contracts with suppliers for fuel, spare parts, and vehicle procurement. Prepare and manage fleet budgets, providing regular reports to senior management on operational costs and efficiency.Health, Safety, and Compliance: Implement safety programs to ensure driver and vehicle safety in line with company policies and regulatory requirements. Regularly audit fleet safety standards, vehicle records, and driver performance to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. Ensure adherence to environmental regulations and implement initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and improve sustainability.
Fleet Tracking and Performance Monitoring: Use fleet management systems and telematics to track vehicle location, fuel consumption, and driver behavior. Analyze fleet data to identify areas for improvement in fuel efficiency, route optimization, and vehicle utilization. Provide regular performance reports and recommendations for continuous improvement. Driver Management: Oversee the recruitment, training, and performance of drivers across all sites. Ensure drivers adhere to company policies, health and safety guidelines, and legal driving hours. Handle driver scheduling, route planning, and monitor workloads to ensure optimal operations. Sustainability & Innovation: Identify opportunities to incorporate new technologies or processes that reduce fleet-related environmental impact (e.g., electric vehicles, route optimization software). Stay updated on trends and innovations in fleet management, including sustainability efforts, to improve operations. Risk Management: Manage vehicle-related incidents, accidents, and insurance claims in coordination with relevant teams. Develop contingency plans to mitigate operational risks, such as vehicle shortages or breakdowns, ensuring minimal disruption to supply chain activities.
Key Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, logistics, supply chain management. Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in fleet management, preferably within the FMCG or logistics industry. Experience managing fleets across multiple locations is a strong advantage. Experience managing different types of fleets (e.g. Trucks, passenger cars, 2-3 wheelers, forklifts, handling equipment’s)Skills: Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with fleet management software and telematics systems. Excellent communication and negotiation abilities. Proficient in budget management and cost control. Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to fleet management (e.g., driver hours, vehicle maintenance standards). Licenses/Certifications: Relevant certifications in fleet management or logistics are preferred. Other: Willingness to travel between company sites as required.
