What Health System Pharmacy contributes to Cardinal Health
Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Health's pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers.
Health System Pharmacy is responsible for providing customized pharmacy program solutions that reduce costs and improve patient care quality for hospitals, health systems and other integrated healthcare providers may also consult with and advise healthcare team on prescribed medications, supplies and related processes.
Job Summary
Cardinal Health manages the pharmacy at Jefferson Healthcare and we are currently recruiting for an Oncology Infusion Pharmacy Manager to oversee our infusion center. Schedule is 5 days a week, 8 hour shifts.
The Oncology Infusion Pharmacy Manager coordinates, manages, facilitates, and oversees the execution and evaluates all administrative and clinical pharmacy activities for Jefferson Healthcare Infusion Services. Through the optimization of procedures, this role ensures consistent and efficient delivery to control costs, minimize waste, optimize customer relationships and deliver positive patient outcomes while maintaining compliance with Federal and state regulatory agencies. Along with maintaining inventory control and budget, this role is responsible for staffing, monitoring staff activities, performance and achievement of individual and departmental goals. The Oncology Infusion Pharmacy Manager will work with other infusion staff, including nursing, providers, and leadership, to ensure safe, standardized medication processes in the infusion center.
Responsibilities
Assumes responsibility for Quality Assurance monitoring and completing End of the Month reports as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy.
Responds to infusion reactions.
Responsible for ensuring safety in the compounding and dispensing of infusion therapy (chemotherapy and nonchemotherapy) and minimizing unnecessary exposure to hazardous drugs. Aside from direct and legal responsibility of the Director of Pharmacy, the Oncology Infusion Pharmacy Manager will be responsible for USP 797 and 800 compliance for all of Jefferson Healthcare. This role will serve as the USP 797 designated person for all of Jefferson Healthcare.
Manages medication shortages.
Participates in the professional development and competency of clinical staff. Functions as a role model and as an educational resource for pharmacy staff.
Keeps informed of all local, state and federal laws covering the storage, handling and dispensing of drugs and for interpreting each prescription order to determine that it meets all legal requirements.
Keeps informed of the action, side effects and proper usage of all new infusion therapy drugs as they are made commercially available as well as of all investigational drugs (if applicable) being studied at the institution.
Maintains awareness of contemporary trends in the profession.
Develops and provides educational materials for patients and caregivers in a format that makes it easy to monitor and report treatment concerns, and how to limit hazardous drug exposure to family members, children, and pets.
Develops educational materials and programs for providers detailing the medications used in the infusion center including its complications, potential drug interactions, adverse effects and effective symptom management.
In collaboration with the Director of Pharmacy and other leadership, coordinate and collaborate with all infusion center staff to ensure best practices, including supporting CPOE.
