On-Call Registered Nurse

The On-call RN is responsible for providing skilled nursing intervention and supportive care to individuals residing in an Upstate Caring Partners ICF or IRA. This care is provided in the residential setting and provides assistance to staff on evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. The nursing care is provided per OPWDD and Upstate Caring Partners policies and procedures. The On-call RN is expected to make site visits to complete assessment and provide training and assistance to staff.

Core Responsibilities

Responsibility for evening, weekend, and holiday on-call duty as scheduled. Provide instruction and direction to Licensed Practical Nurses and AMAPs. Provide routine and emergency nursing care to individuals. Complete all required documentation and reports according to agency and program regulations. Provide nursing and medical in-services to agency staff as applicable. Collaborate with physicians and nurse practitioners on medical issues to provide optimal care. Maintain communication with Senior Nursing staff regarding individual’s medical concerns and responses to care provided. Respond to medical or emotional crisis that may occur secondary to a serious illness or death. Provide appropriate support. Maintain up-to-date records of all calls received, and recommendations provided (Documentation must be accurate/On-call logs submitted each shift). Educate direct care staff, families, and licensed practical nurses on medical issues as they arise. Train AMAPs and Licensed Practical Nurses on tasks they may complete within their scope of practice. Certify and re-certify AMAP’s on an as needed basis. Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and agency regulations and operating standards.

 

Qualifications

 

AAS Degree in Nursing required, Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred Current and valid NYS RN license. At Least 3 years experience.  Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Basic Computer Skills (Windows, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Word, Excel) Travel is required.  Must have a valid NYS Driver’s License.
